Luxury Wardrobe Hardware

A dressing room is the one place where storage is the architecture. There is no island, no sink, no bed to look at: the fronts are the room. That puts wardrobe hardware under more scrutiny than anywhere else in the house, because it is the only thing breaking the surface.

Scale is the first decision, and wardrobe fronts are tall. A full height closet door reads better with a long bar pull running most of its length than with a small grip placed at hand level. Interior drawers are the opposite: shallow, frequent, and better served by a compact knob that does not catch on clothing. Using both in the same finish is what holds a dressing room together.

Projection deserves particular attention here. A deep pull on a sliding door can foul the track, and a hook inside a closet needs enough clearance for a hanger to pass. Check the existing drilling before the length, since a tall front rarely offers a second chance at the holes.

Six signature finishes are available. Unlacquered brass is handled constantly in a dressing room and brightens exactly where fingers pass, which gives the fronts a used, lived in quality. Carbon black turns the same long line graphic against pale joinery, while satin nickel keeps the room cool and recessive. Repeat one finish across the doors, the drawers and the interior hooks, and the storage reads as one piece of furniture rather than a wall of cupboards.
