Bathroom Accessories

Brass bathroom accessories are handled more often than almost anything else in a home, and they are the pieces most often bought as an afterthought. MI&GEI treats them as one family instead: towel bars, towel rings, toilet paper holders, wall hooks and waste baskets drawn from the same language, so a bathroom can be completed piece by piece and still read as a single composition.

A bathroom rarely needs many objects, only the right ones in the right positions. A towel bar where there is uninterrupted wall, a towel ring beside the sink for a hand towel, a hook within reach of the shower for a robe, a holder beside the toilet and a waste basket that can stay in view. A powder room needs even less: a ring, a holder and a single hook usually finish it.

Position comes before decoration. Each piece should be easy to reach without blocking doors, drawers or circulation, and a towel needs clearance to hang free. Wall construction decides the fixings, so check it before drilling rather than after.

Six signature finishes run across the range. Unlacquered brass responds to steam, water and touch, developing a patina particular to the room and the way it is used. Satin nickel and polished nickel hold a cooler, steadier tone, polished nickel sitting naturally alongside chrome faucets, while bronze and carbon black bring depth against pale tile and stone. Keeping one finish dominant, and repeating a second only where it belongs, is what makes a set of brass bathroom accessories feel composed rather than assembled.
